Cromwellian Cannon Ball

This cannonball dates from early September 1643. It was fired at the Norfolk port town of Kings Lynn by Cronwellian Roundheads sieged the town after it declared itself to be Royalist.

Royalist navy forces also blockaded the town’s port, and the ensuing battle for Kings Lynn  became one of the decisive battles of the English Civil War.

This particular cannonball landed in fields later farmed by a lady called Veronica Lane, who presented it to entertainer Gareth Calway who tours a Cromwell show. In turn he will now present it to Marriott’s Warehouse Trust as part of a Cromwellian commemorative event on September 3rd 2016.
